"Filling out that application two years ago was the best decision I could have ever made because working as a Community Assistant has greatly impacted my college career at UC Irvine. Working for ACC and Vista Del Campo Norte the past two years has completely shaped me not only as a student but also as an individual. Being a CA is worth so much more than just sitting behind a desk and answering phone calls, it is about shaping the way students live and helping them in their everyday life. ACC puts students first and being a CA, that is one of the greatest aspects of this job. I have gotten the opportunity to create bonds with so many people that I would have never even become met, let alone become very close to. Not many college students can say that they love their job, but being a CA, I can proudly say I love my job and what I do for the VDC Norte community every single day."

"Applying to be a Community Assistant has by far been one of the best choices I’ve made in college. This job goes far beyond just working within a professional office as an assistant; it includes ensuring residents have the best possible living experience and the cool part is, you’re a resident too! Being able to work where you live truly gives you the appreciation of what goes into running an apartment complex. You get to develop your interpersonal skills, learn to work in collaboration with fellow students, and gain invaluable experience of working in an office and even putting your passions into educational programs! A lot of being a community assistant is being a welcoming home and a helpful hand to those in need. My time as a Community Assistant has given me a family within my fellow staff, a deep pride + love for where I live, growth in who I am, and countless memories that will hold a special place in my heart even after college!"

"What I love most about the CA position is its multi-dimensionality. There are so many components to the job, so there is never a day when I don’t learn something new. I love meeting and interacting with people on a daily basis and my favorite way to do so is through programming. Planning programs is a lot of fun and the setting is a great way to meet people and get to know them personally. In addition to acquiring new skills each day and programming, I’m happy to go to work every day because I am surrounded by amazing people – my residents, fellow CAs, and professional staff. In such a short period of time, my coworkers and I have gotten very close and there’s never a dull moment when spending time with them. This job has taught me many professional and interpersonal skills and I know that I’ll be able to take all that I’ve learned and apply it throughout my life. Overall, the CA position is a fun and unique way to get involved and one can’t go wrong with choosing to apply!"

“If you know me you probably hear me say how much I love this job all the time. This is the first job where I can actually say I love where I work. Coming into work every day excited to be there is such an amazing feeling and I couldn’t be happier. When I randomly came across the application for being a Community Assistant on the last day when they were taking applications I never thought for a second that I would actually get the position, let alone fall in love with it. This job offers an abundance of useful skills and challenging positions that places you as a worthy candidate for future jobs. There is a home here on ACC properties as well as a lifetime of experience and opportunities. I would recommend anyone to apply for this position, there is so much room for growth as a professional and a place to call home. (:”

"Working as a Community Assistant is an amazing position. The job is so versatile, so it teaches you different skills ranging from professional office work, leasing, marketing, and developing connections and strong relationships with both your coworkers and your residents. Being a CA allows you to get connected with people as a community, and you're able to help create that sense of community. My favorite part is creating programs that bring people together in shared interests, especially during the midterm season to bring their spirits up. Programming the best way to learn about what people are passionate about. Being a CA really opens your eyes to the variety of people you interact with and the way you establish a relationship with them. I learned how to improve my professionalism and customer service day by day. Customer service also comes naturally if you and your residents have a good relationship. You also learn a lot about time management, trying to balance school, extracurriculars and a job, but it's all worth it if you can allocate time properly. It's a very social and fun job with always something to do and the skills I learn here, I can carry out towards my future career!"

"Being a Community Assistant means that you live where you work and you work where you live.  I had been interested in a position like this since coming to UCI, but didn’t realize what that meant until after working for a few months.  Living where you work means that home is never more than a stone’s throw away.  You develop bonds with your housemates and residents and fellow staff because you’re a resident in the community that you serve.  You have all the benefits of being an ACC resident, with additional perks from being property staff.  Working where you live means that you’re shaping the experience of the residents around you.  This sounds corny but it’s true; the individual choices you make as a CA directly impact students, parents, and other staff.   I have enjoyed my experience because I know that I’ve developed personally and professionally. I am better able to hold my own with a complex task, and just as important, I feel more confident doing so."

"When I started the application process to be a Community Assistant, I was a second year who had no involvements on campus and had a yearning to interact with more people. I found that and so much more in my time as a CA! I’ve gained professional experience, administrative skills, and greater knowledge of customer service. Being a CA is so fulfilling and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my two years here! This job is flexible with school and allows me to explore my own interests and share them with others. It’s an environment that pushes you to your full potential and encourages you to grow every day. On top of all that though, I’ve built incredible relationships with the professional staff, other CA’s, and the residents. Take a leap of faith and apply-I promise you won’t regret it!"

"I love being a Community Assistant because it provides me with an opportunity to not only develop relations with residents and students, but this position also incorporates a sense of professionalism that is not easy to come by through on campus jobs. This position definitely gave me a taste of the real world when it comes to dealing with customers as well as having to utilize interpersonal skills. Others should want to be a Community Assistant because this is an eye opening opportunity and provides you with the chance to grow as an individual and further enhance one’s communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills, all of which will provide a better chance at achieving one’s future goals and plans."

“I love being a Community Assistant because it has been a great experience, in which I have gotten to work with amazing people who have become my family and I have gotten to meet awesome residents who have become my friends.  To me, being a Community Assistant is not a job or obligation but is something that I love to do and is what makes me who I am- I love getting connecting with others, programming, helping the community, and learning more about others and myself. I love how this job has allowed to me to grow on a personal, professional, and leadership level and believe that without this job, I would not be the person I am today. I hope to take all the friendships and memories I have made as a CA with me beyond UC Irvine and I would not change having this job for the world.”
